ROLE

scrum master

LOCATION: Hybrid in place must be commutable to Hull, East Yorkshire
£28,000 - £39,000 (plus loads of benefits!!!)

About Us

This is an excellent chance to join a company at the forefront of digital, with a progressive modern culture,  working on top projects, in a job with real progression.

Sauce is a software agency based in the heart of Hull’s bustling Fruit Market. In seven years we have established ourselves as an innovation partner for a wide range of clients from huge multinationals to disruptive tech startups, making mobile apps, portals and IOT projects bespoke to the client requirements.

As a company, we promote a relaxed, open and positive working environment, with a flexible hybrid working model, where the team can choose to either work from home or in our fantastic office in C4DI, overlooking the Humber estuary.

The Role

Every project at Sauce is a little bit different. Every client has different needs and different levels of understanding about lean and agile principles, and every team has their own unique ways of working to deliver the best possible product. The role is to identify where guidance and support may be needed to enhance project delivery.

Whether it’s coaching teams from the get go with the Scrum or Kanban framework, suggesting changes and techniques, encouraging a revisit of WIP limits, supporting the Product Owner in their new role, or removing blockers and impediments, you will offer the team your helping hand to become a more effective, transparent and cohesive team.

You aren’t expected to do all of these things at the same time (that would be insane), but whatever the circumstance, you will need to have the knowledge and awareness to know which role is likely to be appropriate for each project.

Here’s a rundown of what the role generally entails:

  • Having excellent knowledge of agile/lean principles, practices and frameworks, and working with teams and clients to coach, educate and facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Talking to clients and stakeholders to understand their business, their users and their requirements, and facilitating good lines of communication between the client and the team throughout the course of the project.
  • Helping the client and the team to understand the business and user requirements of the product through backlog management, refinement and prioritisation (which may include being hands-on and writing user stories yourself, or working with a client-side PO to coach them through this process).
  • Pro-actively working with the team and the client to focus on delivering small and regular releases of high-value working software for user testing and feedback.
  • Understanding that every client is at a different stage in their Agile transformation - some will be open to coaching, some might not, some might require more improvement than others, and that’s ok. We’ll still get the job done in a way that works for everyone involved.
  • Gathering and reporting useful metrics to help teams reflect on their progress and working practices, and to help the business with forecasting and resource planning.
  • Facilitating client and user workshops, user story mapping and being involved in regular software demonstrations both internally and externally.
  • Helping clients to understand the importance of user testing, and helping them to do user research and gather valuable user feedback.
Loving the odd bit of admin and paperwork (we’re ISO 27001 certified, it comes with the territory).

Skills and experience

  • Having excellent and adaptive communication skills, knowing how to communicate effectively with different audiences (team mates, clients, stakeholders, users, etc.).
  • At least two years experience as either a Scrum Master or Agile Coach, with some demonstrable/measurable indicators of success within that role.
  • Experience in a client-facing role, working with external stakeholders and/or managing client expectations.
  • Experience using Jira or other similar project tracking software.
  • Knowledge of team collaboration tools such as Mural/Miro.
  • Certifications are great, if you have them please tell us, but they’re not a deal breaker.
  • Ability to encourage teams to be self-organising and accountable for their commitments.
  • As Scrum Master you will be a pragmatic ‘servant leader’, able to work under your own initiative, be a great problem solver and facilitator.
